18th edition of Purolator Tackle Hunger

The Montreal Alouettes held last Friday, September 23, their 18th edition of Purolator Tackle Hunger. The Alouettes collected more than 7438 pounds of food.

The Alouettes were hosting the Hamilton Tiger-Cats at Percival-Molson Memorial Stadium. They encouraged fans to bring non-perishable food items and make cash or credit card donations for people in need.

Alouettes cheerleaders as well as Moisson Montréal and Purolator’s generous volunteers helped to collect donations.

To thank fans for their generosity, they had the opportunity to have their picture taken with the Grey Cup at the Purolator booth.

The Alouettes and Purolator have been partnering for 18 years, and together they’ve donated hundreds of thousands of pounds of food to local food banks.

Donations collected during the event will support Moisson Montreal, a non-profit organization that distributes food to more than 257 accredited community organizations on the island of Montreal, which is equivalent to 137,000 people, including nearly 45,000 children.

Since 2019, the pandemic and inflation have caused a 26 percent increase in demand for Moisson Montréal’s services. Many of these new users are fully employed, but are having trouble keeping up with inflation. Grocery prices are up more than 10%.
