Between football seasons, players and the organizations they play for can undergo many changes. New players, new coaches, and new game plans can alter the direction of a football team and the Alouettes are no different.
During my career in Montreal, never have there been as many change as occurred this off-season, both on the team and in my personal life. Even with all of the adjustments that have been made within the Alouette organization, the most noticible change for me personally is that during the off-season I became a father.
On March 30, 2007 at 12:45 p.m. Eden Marie graced us with her presence. At a mere 9 lbs., 15oz., we had a happy, health baby girl. At the time, I had no idea how much of an impact something under 10 pounds would have on my life.
Luckily for me I had a few months to not only sit back and enjoy getting to know her, but also to get my bearings straight before the season began.
Although my wife has taken on most of the workload with Eden, I have found myself tired and finding ways to adjust to the changes in my schedule. For the most part I think we are adapting to parenthood quite well.
Like most new parents, every time we get a little comfortable and think we have her figured out, she’ll throws us a curveball and before I know it I’m standing there covered in puke and unable to quiet the screams of a hungry two-month-old who only wants her mommy.
After six professional football seasons I thought I had seen it all. Heck, I played for “The Don” for the past five years! Well, there was one thing that neither Don, nor any other coach could never have prepared me for… fatherhood.
