In the first quarter of the Alouettes’ game against the Tiger-Cats in Hamilton, Anthony Calvillo became the fourth quarterback in CFL history to pass for 50,000 yards.
Calvillo began his career in Las Vegas in 1994 following two successful seasons with the Utah State Aggies. After one season in Vegas, he went on to play three years with the Ticats before joining Montreal as a free agent in 1998.
The Los Angeles native studied for two years under the guidance of longtime CFL star Tracy Ham before taking over as the Als full time starter in 2000. That season, he passed for 4,277 yards, leading the Als to their first Grey Cup appearance in more than 20 years.
Calvillo has stayed hot ever since, winning the Grey Cup in 2002 and gaining over 5,000 yards through the air four times. In 2004, en route to becoming the first quarterback with four 1,000-yard receivers, Calvillo passed for 6,041 yards, breaking the nearly unattainable 6,000-yard single season passing marker.
