Playing on their home soil with one of their strongest teams in years, the Americans were the clear favourites to win this year’s NFL Global Junior Championship. By the time all was said and done, however, it was Team Canada left Miami with a 23-13 win and its third-straight title.
“It could easily have gone the other way,” said Team Canada coach Glen Constantin. “Our kids were nervous at first and we missed a few good scoring chances as a result. We buckled down at half-time though and played a great second half.”
The scoring opened with a US touchdown by Jason Frierson before Canada scored a field goal just before the end of the first half. Trailing 7-3 at the start of the second side, Canada picked up its game with majors from Benoit Prud’Homme and Ismael Bamba to take the lead and seal the win.
