REGINA (CFL.ca wire) — The Saskatchewan Roughriders confirmed on Monday that quarterback Kerry Joseph has signed a new one-year plus an option contract. Joseph started 14 regular season games and both playoff games for the Roughriders last season. He finished the year with 3,489 passing yards and 583 rushing yards.
The Roughriders have two veteran quarterbacks signed in Joseph and Marcus Crandell. Rocky Butler was traded to the Hamilton Tiger-Cats last week.
“The fact that Kerry was willing to work within the new cap parameters in the CFL, and do so without complaining at all, speaks volumes about his character and leadership,” said Roughriders general manager and vice president of football operations Eric Tillman.
“We will not confirm any of the numbers which were reported, but Kerry certainly evidenced that he is a team player by taking this step. When these discussions began prior to Rocky’s trade, we could not guarantee Kerry that he would be back even with a restructured deal. He said he understood that there are no guarantees in professional football, but, if given the opportunity to stay in Saskatchewan, he will do everything in his power to help us win a championship.”
