OFFICIAL RELEASE, Montreal – Montreal Alouettes President and CEO Mr. Larry Smith and the newly-retired Sylvain Girard will participate in the opening of the first Olympiades Réussite Jeunesse today, an event for 15- to 18-year-olds who suffer difficulties in school, tomorrow at 2 p.m. at the Thérèse-Casgrain Theater of John-Abbott College.
These youths attend the CFER education centres instead of regular school in order to acquire skills outside of a standard classroom to help them adjust to the job market following their education. A key element is keeping these kids in the classroom, instead of allowing them to fall through the cracks of the system and drop out. Four Alouettes’ cheerleaders and mascot Touché will also be on site for the launch.
“We’re proud to be part of the Olympiades Réussite Jeunesse as this event is consistent with our message about the importance of following through with an education,” Mr. Smith said.
The Alouettes’ longtime partner, the Success for Youth Foundation, will play a key role in the Olympiades. The foundation’s mission is to keep kids in school, all while supporting events like the Olympiades.
Along with the Success for Youth Foundation and the Olympiades, the Alouettes’ have a diverse community program featuring amongst other activities, its annual charitable hockey tour and golf tournament.
