Official release, Montreal – Montreal Alouettes’ President and Chief Executive Officer Mr. Larry Smith announced today that Jim Popp will focus his efforts on his role as General Manager and will relinquish his head coaching duties.
“We have decided to come back to the traditional structure under which we have had so much success in the past, which is to have one person act as president, one as general manager and one as head coach,” said Mr. Smith. “We are confident that Jim Popp can contribute to the success of the organization by focusing his efforts on his general manager functions.”
In 2007, Popp led his team to an 8-10 record. The Alouettes lost the East Division Semi-Final to the Grey Cup finalists, the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
The organization hopes to be able to announce its new head coach in the near future.
