Official release, Montreal – Montreal Alouettes Head Coach Marc Trestman has announced the hiring of Tim Burke as the team’s defensive coordinator, Scott Squires as the special teams coordinator and Casey Creehan as the linebackers coach.
“We are thrilled gain the experience of a coach like Tim Burke and are confident that he will be a key addition to our organization,” said Coach Trestman. “We are equally pleased to add a pair of quality coaches in Casey Creehan and Scott Squires to our staff. Special teams being such a key part of the Canadian game, it was important to get a quality coordinator. One of the things that impressed me the most with all three of these coaches is how highly respected they are throughout the league.”
Burke has several years of experience in the CFL and in football, as he spent the last four years with the Calgary Stampeders, the last as their defensive coordinator. Prior to 2007, he served as their defensive backs coach three seasons. Burke has been in football for more than three decades. In his career, he has spent time at Purdue, Indiana State, Tennessee-Chattanooga, Kansas, Wyoming, Ball State, North Dakota, South Dakota, Appalachian State, Gardner-Webb and Minnesota.
Squires was the Edmonton Eskimos’ special teams coordinator in 2007, following 17 years in U.S. college football where he was the head coach at California Lutheran University from 1996 to 2006. He had an impressive win/loss record of 55-44 over that span and was named Coach of the Year in 1997.
Creehan coached the Stampeders’ defensive line for the past four seasons, following six years in the NCAA with James Madison, Clarion, Southern Illinois and Lehigh.
