Montreal – The fans of the Montreal Alouettes have one question for Anthony Calvillo and the rest of the offence: Where’d you go?
In a city that is used to a high octane Alouettes offence, fans are now watching a team that struggles to put points on the board on a weekly basis.
Star passer Anthony Calvillo threw two interceptions in Saturday’s 16-9 matinee loss to the visiting Toronto Argonauts, who swept a home-and-home series with the win.
The Alouettes offence failed on numerous occasions to score on Saturday, with Calvillo saying that missed opportunities were the difference in the loss.
“We put in a poor effort when it mattered most,” he said. “We keep making mental mistakes.”
The Alouettes offence produced 176 yards in the first half, but was able to score just four points. However, in the second half with the help of a stingy defence, the Alouettes were able to slowly claw themselves back into the game.
“Our defence played spectacular, and our offence didn’t hold our side of the bargain,” said a disheartened Calvillo.
The Alouettes were given multiple second chances throughout the game, as two of Calvillo’s errant passes that were intercepted were overturned due to Toronto penalities.
However, even with rookie running back Jarrett Payton’s 79 yards on 13 carries, the Alouettes were unable to capitalize on their chances and suffered yet another loss and can now finish no better than third place in the East Division.
“We just keep losing, we have to find a way to win,” said Calvillo.
