Montreal – While the effects of the Alouettes game-winning goal-line stance last Friday night against the BC Lions continues to make waves across the CFL, Montreal head coach Marc Trestman will be the first to tell you that their Sunday afternoon matchup against the Toronto Argonauts is the only thing on his mind.

In a case of two teams heading in opposite directions, the Alouettes look to collect their seventh win of the season and fifth in a row, whereas Toronto continues to search for its identity as a team. Last week saw the Alouettes collect their first win of the season against a West Division team in an inspiring 30-25 win over the Lions, while the Argos were on display across the country in the second matchup of the CFLs annual Labour Day Classic double-header on TSN. |
The game was indeed a classic as the Argos managed a 34-31 win to gain their fourth W of the year, and their first against the snake-bitten Hamilton Tiger-Cats.
In the Argos’ first game minus Michael Bishop – who was traded earlier last week to the Roughriders – quarterback Kerry Joseph seemed comfortable in the pocket, throwing for 399 yards and a touchdown in the win.
The Argos hope to put an end to the Alouettes current win streak this week, which has seen them collect victories against Toronto, the Lions, the Blue Bombers and the Ticats.
The Alouettes made a statement last week, showing for the first time in a while that they can win ugly.
In a less-than spectacular outing, quarterback Anthony Calvillo managed to lead the Als to victory, driving his offence 49 yards downfield to set up an Adrian McPherson end-zone sneak for the winning score.
The Als’ defence did the rest, stopping BC three consecutive times with zeroes on the clock to lock down the win.
On the injury front, Avon Cobourne left Friday’s game in the fourth quarter and is questionable for Sunday. He currently leads the CFL in rushing with 815 yards, and sits second in receptions with 49.
The Alouettes (6-3-0) host the Toronto Argonauts on Sunday, Sept. 7 at 1 p.m. at Percival Molson Stadium (RDS, TSN, CKAC SPORTS, CJAD, 98,5 FM).
