Despite the loss, Montreal walked away from Hamilton with at least one major accomplishment as Ben Cahoon caught 10 passes for 107 yards and a pair of touchdowns en route to surpassing Ray Elgaard as the CFL’s all-time Canadian receptions leader.

Cahoon set the record on his seventh reception of the game, a 17-yard completion from Anthony Calvillo – which he followed up with a seven-yard major, his first of the game.

The Alouettes got off to a rough start, ironically on a mistake by Cahoon, as he fumbled on the first drive of the game deep in the Ticats’ end.

That fumble turned into a 10-yard Geoff Tisdale return, before he lateralled to Lawrence Gordon, who carried the ball an additional 87 yards.

Tiger-Cat quarterback Quentin Porter closed out the drive with his first touchdown pass of the day, a 13-yard toss to Earnest Jackson.

In fact, Porter had the game of his life against the Alouettes on Saturday as the rookie pivot became the first Hamilton quarterback to pass for five touchdowns in a game since Danny McManus in 1999.

Porter keyed in on Prechae Rodriguez – also a CFL rookie – for three of his five touchdowns, as the speedy receiver totalled 198 yards and the trio of majors on 12 receptions.

On the Montreal side of the ball, despite not scoring a touchdown in the first half for the first time this season, Calvillo was on top of his game, totalling 468 yards and four touchdowns on a career-high 44 completions.

Calvillo’s number one target was Jamel Richardson, who registered 149 yards and two touchdowns on 12 catches.
