Game 15 preview: HAM @ MTL

Following their 44-38 humbling at the hands of the Hamilton Tiger-Cats last Saturday afternoon at Ivor Wynne Stadium, the Alouettes and the CFL community alike were left asking more than just a few questions.

How can a team that refused to allow a touchdown in their two previous contests allow 44 points against the second-lowest scoring team in the league? Better yet, how can a defence that has allowed the fewest points in the league all season possibly see five touchdown passes go against them?

The answer? It’s the CFL!

Hamilton’s rookie pivot, Quentin Porter, threw for 429 yards and five majors, three of them to fellow freshman Prechae Rodriguez.

What left most experts scratching their heads in sheer confusion was seeing Porter pick apart a strong Alouette secondary just a week after he was sacked 10 times by a relentless BC Lions defence.

Porter guided the Tiger-Cats to 24 first-half points compared to just nine scored by Montreal.

Not to be outdone by a rookie, however, veteran quarterback Anthony Calvillo and his slumbering offence finally woke up in the second half, scoring 29 of their 38 points in the final two frames.

Calvillo completed a CFL-record 44 passes for 468 yards throwing four touchdowns in the process, while receiver Jamel Richardson continued his breakout season by catching two of Calvillo’s majors and slotback Ben Cahoon caught the others.

Richardson and Cahoon both amassed over 100 receiving yards on the day, collecting 149 and 107 respectively, while Brian Bratton caught nine balls for 113 yards.
