Montreal, Oct. 16, 2008 – Montreal Alouettes Vice President and General Manager Jim Popp announced today that safety Matthieu Proulx has signed a new three-year contract with the team.
‘’We’re very proud to be able to have a quality person like Matthieu for the next three years,‘’ said Jim Popp. “He is exactly the type of complete player the Alouettes look for, both on the field and in the community.’’
Holder of a law degree from Université Laval, Proulx was the Alouettes’ first pick in the 2005 CFL Canadian Draft, fifth overall. As a rookie, he led the Alouettes in special teams tackles and forced fumbles, and finished third for most tackles for a loss. He was named the East Division’s Most Outstanding Rookie.
Proulx had one of the most productive games of his career last Oct. 4 against the Tiger-Cats in Hamilton, when he forced three fumbles and registered one sack and eight tackles.
He will be available for media following today’s noon practice at Concordia stadium.
