Good luck and good night: Molson Stadium closes for 2008

Montreal – Today, 20,202 Alouettes fans streamed into Percival Molson Stadium for the last time this year as the Als took on the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. Montreal’s next game will be played in Edmonton, and after that the Als are off to the Olympic Stadium to host the East Division Final.

MontrealAlouettes.com asked fans how they felt about their last visit to the Alouettes’ perch on top of Mount Royal this season…

Outdoors is best
“Well, we love coming here, watching the game outside – for me, it’s the best way to spend a fall afternoon,” said Justin St-Pierre. “So, I’m going to miss it for sure.”

A family affair
Twelve year-old Marco said it’s about spending the afternoon with his dad. “We always come together – well sometimes my mom brings me too. It’s always fun!”

But we still love the Big O…
Of course, going to Olympic Stadium is exciting too, pointed out fan Claude Méthot.

“It’s different, we’re in a big indoor stadium and it’s like the football games in the big American cities. I think it’s good for the big games – the finals and the Grey Cup. It’s exciting. But for all year long, here, under the open sky – it’s the best.”

A season of great memories
Like every year, there were some memorable moments this season at Percival Molson, especially on the field.

“Wow, the best moment? It has to be the game when we stopped the BC Lions three times on the one-yard line to win,” raved fan Andrew Johnson. “I think the clock even ran out, but we kept getting these penalties, and they could repeat first down – the crowd was going absolutely crazy.”

As for today, it’s business as usual on the mountaintop. At halftime the Als were winning 16-12 against the Blue Bombers – and for fan Diane Cloutier, that’s what makes the game.

“Of course I’m having fun!” she exclaimed with a wink. “We’re winning!”
