Montreal – Can’t get enough Grey Cup?
As hosts of this year’s big game, the Montreal Alouettes have erected an entire village in downtown Montreal where you can get your fill.
Set up in Place du Canada on the corner of Peel and René-Levesque, the Grey Cup Village comprises several large tents that will host musical shows and other events.
Attendees of the Saturday’s East Final were excited about the festival that will take place in the village starting Wednesday, Nov. 19, and last throughout Grey Cup weekend, ending on Sunday, Nov. 23.
“I think the village and the festival are a good thing,” said Sophia Marciano. “It’s a way to get the whole city involved, people who might not be going to the Grey Cup can still come and enjoy the festivities.”
The village will open this Wednesday with a celebration at noon and will feature exciting shows by Sylvie Desgroseilliers and the Guy Bélanger All-Star band that night.
Amongst some of the planned activities are the traditional Calgary Pancake Breakfast flag football games.
“I’m going to the pancake breakfast!” exclaimed nine-year-old Simon, at the game with his father Pierre-Luc Dagenais.
“I figured, what kid doesn’t like pancakes? And football?” chuckled the father.
The big game will also be broadcast on big screens in both the Bistro area and the Molson Ex Zone.
“I wanted to go to the Grey Cup, but didn’t get any tickets… now that I know they’re going to put the game on big screens downtown I’m definitely going to go there.
“That’s a really good idea you know, so all the fans can watch it together, and right downtown too,” Dagenais added.
The village will be the most sophisticated ever, and with the Als in the game after winning the East Final, it’s sure to be alive with Grey Cup fever!
