Montreal, Dec. 4, 2008 – Montreal Alouettes’ Vice President and General Manager Jim Popp is pleased to announce that centre Bryan Chiu has extended his contract and will be back for 2009. The deal was finalized Wednesday evening.
Chiu (6’1’’, 288 lbs.) and the offensive line found the fountain of youth in 2008. Four of the five starters on the offensive line, including Chiu, were named to the East All-Star team with Chiu himself earning a CFL All-Star nod. The Alouettes allowed just 22 sacks in 2008, for the lowest total in team history. The Alouettes also set several offensive team records including for the most points in a season with 610 and most the pass completions in a season with 495.
“I am thrilled to be able to continue my career with the team that believed in me back in 1997,” Chiu said. “Last year was very special for me and I am already looking forward to training camp in 2009 and to continue building on what we started.”
