Montreal, Dec. 15, 2008 – Montreal Alouettes’ Vice President and General Manager Jim Popp is pleased to announce that 2008 East Division Most Outstanding Canadian Ben Cahoon has signed a new one-year contract plus an option with the organization.
“I’m very excited to come back for another football season,“ Cahoon said. “With the season we’ve had in 2008, it would have been hard to leave the sport. I’m looking forward to the upcoming season and I believe the best has yet to come for this team.”
Cahoon (5’9’’, 184 lbs.) has rarely been as dominant as he was in 2008. The CFL’s top Canadian in 2002 and 2003, he set the new standard for career receptions by a non-import this year with 861 and became the first Alouette to record eight 1,000-yard receiving seasons and to catch 100 passes or more twice in a career. In 17 games, he led the CFL with 107 receptions, was fifth in the league with 1,231 yards and scored seven touchdowns.
