Montreal, Dec. 16, 2008 – Montreal Alouettes’ Vice President and General Manager Jim Popp is pleased to announce that East Division All-Star cornerback Davis Sanchez has signed a new one-year contract plus an option with the Alouettes
“Over the past decade, Davis has redefined the cornerback position and has been a key ratio-changer for the teams he has played with,” said Jim Popp. “He is a model for future Canadian defensive backs.”
Named to his division’s All-Star team for the third time of his career in 2008, Sanchez (5’11’’, 192 lbs.) has been one of the CFL’s rare Canadian cornerbacks since breaking into the league in 1999.
An Alouettes’ first-round draft pick that year, Sanchez has played eight CFL seasons including six with Montreal, making 262 tackles and 24 interceptions. He led the Alouettes with three interceptions for returns of 53 yards in 2008. He is 34.
