Montreal, Apr. 9, 2009 – The Montreal Alouettes are pleased to announce that team President and CEO, Mr. Larry Smith, has been elected to the Canadian Olympic Committee’s board of directors through 2012.
“I am honoured to join the COC and to pursue our mission in developing amateur sport in Quebec and the country as a whole,” Larry Smith said. “Not only do we want to develop high-profile athletes using sports and education, but also develop them into being great citizens and the future leaders of our country.”
Smith also applauded the nomination of Marcel Aubut as the president-elect of the COC, the first francophone to lead the organization.
“I’m really pleased to be able to work with an inspirational leader like Marcel for the next four years,” Smith added.
The Canadian Olympic Committee is a national, private, not-for-profit organization committed to excellence in sports. It is responsible for all aspects of Canada’s involvement in the Olympic Movement, including the country’s participation in the Olympic and Pan American Games and a wide variety of programs that promote the Olympic Movement in Canada through cultural and educational means.
