Toronto – Apr. 21, 2009 – CFL release – Purolator, the official courier of the CFL, and the Canadian Football League announced today that the Purolator Tackle Hunger program will be returning in 2009 to celebrate its seventh season.
“We are very proud that the Purolator Tackle Hunger program has surpassed the historic milestone of delivering two million pounds of food to local food banks across Canada,” said Brian Meagher, Senior Vice President, Sales, Marketing and Customer Service at Purolator.
“We know we can count on the CFL, its players and, most of all, its fans, to continue supporting their local communities in 2009 through the Purolator Tackle Hunger program.”
As part of the program, every time a CFL quarterback is sacked, Purolator donates his weight in food to a local food bank. Purolator also hosts food drives at selected CFL home games throughout the season, giving fans the special opportunity to be photographed with the Grey Cup, in exchange for a food or cash donation.
“It’s seldom been more important to reach out to our fellow Canadians, so we’re especially gratified to welcome back Purolator Tackle Hunger for another season,” said CFL Commissioner Mark Cohon.
“It’s a perfect example of what can happen when our teams, our fans, and an outstanding partner like Purolator, all work together to make a positive difference.”
TSN’s CFL analyst Chris Schultz said he has seen that difference first hand when he has visited food banks as the spokesperson for Purolator Tackle Hunger.
“By definition, a team is a specific number of people pulling together for a specific purpose. The Purolator Tackle Hunger team, the CFL teams, TSN and the CFL fans – who are a team in their own right – have combined to achieve an astonishing feat by coming together to help alleviate the problem of hunger right here in Canada,” said Schultz.
“Purolator Tackle Hunger brings everyone associated with the CFL and Purolator together on behalf of the families that need our help, with tremendous results. For me to be associated with all of these teams is as impressive as its gets.”
The 2009 Canadian Football League regular season kicks off Canada Day, July 1, when the Toronto Argonauts visit the Hamilton Tiger-Cats and the Montreal Alouettes visit the Calgary Stampeders, in a rematch of the 2008 Grey Cup.
Details on the Purolator Tackle Hunger program, including dates for the game day food drives, will be announced before the 2009 season. For additional information, please visit www.CFL.ca/purolator.
