Woodruff back for more
The Alouettes have signed a valuable part of their future.
Last Tuesday, Als general manager Jim Popp announced the signing of guard Andrew Woodruff to a three-year deal plus an option.
Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
In 2006 Woodruff, a Boise State graduate, started in 12 games for the Broncos before winning the Fiesta Bowl in a memorable matchup against the Oklahoma Sooners.
A native of Victoria, BC, Woodruff was drafted by the Als in the second round (12) of last year’s CFL draft.
He is 23.
Dominguez looking for suitors
Matt Dominguez wants to play football, he just doesn’t know where yet.
According to Saskatoon radio station CKOM, Dominguez believes that following an eight-week rehabilitation process for his injured knees, he is ready to return to football.
“I have a team I want to play for… it’s really about the Riders coming forward and saying ‘hey we’ll bring you back on,’ ” the six-year CFL vet told the radio station.
Saskatchewan released the talented receiver because of salary-cap issues last February.
Dominguez is 30.
Lions add to defence
The B.C. Lions have added to new members to their defence corps.
Monday, the Lions announced the signings of Canadian defensive back Mike McEachern and import linebacker Marcus Richardson.
Terms of both deals were not disclosed.
McEchern joins the Lions after a successful collegiate career at Western Illinois where he was named a Missouri Valley Football Conference Second Team All-Star and lead the team’s secondary 60 tackles and two sacks in 2008.
He was drafted in the fifth round of the 2008 CFL draft.
Richardson signs with BC after spending his past five years playing for Troy University. The 6 – foot – 3, 225 – pound linebacker recorded 116 tackles with one interception and two forced fumbles during his time with the Trojans.
