Montreal, June 3, 2009 – Montreal Alouettes’ Vice President and General Manager Jim Popp announced today that Quebecois fullbacks Martin Bédard and Benoît Boulanger have signed a contract with the team.
“We are excited about these two local players – they both have a passion for the game and have a real chance to contribute to our team this season. Bédard comes from a strong NCAA program, and it’s nice to see that Coach André Bolduc’s recruiting is starting to pay off and the Sherbrooke program is improving,” Popp said.
Bédard (6’3’’, 239 lbs) has signed for a year plus an option after being chosen by the Alouettes in the second round, 14th overall, of the 2009 CFL Canadian Draft. He started six of 12 games played in 2008 with the Connecticut Huskies, recording 156 yards on 13 receptions at tight end, while also playing at long snapper. He played 13 games in 2007, including three starts. He is 25.
Boulanger (6’2’’, 240 lbs) has signed for three years plus an option. He was chosen by the Alouettes, in the fifth round, 39th overall, of the 2009 CFL Canadian Draft. He played seven games in 2008 with the Sherbrooke Vert & Or, recording 113 yards on seven catches and five tackles. He received an award from the Quebec Conference for his community involvement in 2008. He is 23.
