St-Jean-sur-Richelieu, June 12, 2009 – The following is the daily report from the Alouettes’ training camp for Day 6.
Indoors
The Als practiced indoors at the Stade du Haut Richelieu for a third time this week.
Cahoon a quarterback?
We all know Ben Cahoon can catch. We all know Ben Cahoon can hold. He can even step in as a kicker when need be! But Ben Cahoon at quarterback? … Not quite.
Casual observers may have thought the #86 who lined up under centre at this morning’s practice was none other than Cahoon, but if they looked closely, they’d have seen the face of All-Star quarterback Anthony Calvillo. Turns out A.C. simply was without his normal jersey today and was able to wear his buddy’s famous #86 since Cahoon was given a day off. Click here to see some pics.
A day off
Aside from Cahoon, Mark Estelle, Davis Sanchez and Matthieu Proulx were also given a rare day off today, but watched practice from the sidelines nonetheless.
According to Kerry Watkins
“Camp’s a little easier than last year, but that doesn’t mean it’s not intense and we’re not working hard! Now that Coach Trestman is in his second year with us, he’s really got a handle on how to run the show. I’ve learned a lot about myself under his direction and he’s really helped my teammates and I learn how to push ourselves to the limit, but still stay composed.”
Trestman on giving his players some rest
“I’m just trying to be fair with the guys considering how hard they’ve practiced. And by giving these guys the day off, we’re also giving some of the new and younger guys a chance to show us what they can do.”
