The Alouettes beat the Eskimos 50-16 at Percival Molson Stadium

Montreal – Talk about a homecoming.
The Als, playing in front of an 87th consecutive sellout crowd went big – really big – en route to a 50-16 win over the visiting Edmonton Eskimos.
Alouette slotback and L’Équipeur Player of the Game S.J. Green, who has so far spent most of his career on the practice roster, had a stellar outing.
The slotback, who usually watches home games from the sidelines and road matchups on TV, caught five passes for 113 yards and a fourth-quarter touchdown.
Opening with style
The Als got off to a quick start yet again, scoring on their opening drive for the second-straight game thanks to another Anthony Calvillo-to-Kerry Watkins pass for six.
Calvillo was his usual self, throwing for 343 yards and two touchdowns, while adding a four-yard rushing major in the second quarter.
With his two passing majors, career numbers 330 and 331, the Als’ perennial MVP and team leader came within just two passing touchdowns of Ron Lancaster’s second-best total in CFL history.
Following a flurry of scores in the form of field goals by both kickers and Calvillo’s rushing major to bring the score to 19-6 for the Als at the half, A.C. then hit Green 21-yards downfield to give the Als a much-needed cushion.
On the defensive side of things…
While it was Green starring on offence, the Als also received a boatload of help from defensive tackle Keron Williams on the defensive side of the ball.
Williams had two sacks and two fumble recoveries in the win, leading a defence that also saw big plays from guys like Anwar Stewart and Shea Emry.
And let’s not forget long-snapper-slash-reserve-linebacker Cory Huclack who returned a Jason Maas pass 38 yards for his first career touchdown, and an Avon Cobourne score that also added to the lead.
The Als will face the Roughriders at Regina’s Mosaic Stadium this Saturday, July 18 at 3 p.m. (RDS HD, TSN HD, CKAC SPORTS, CJAD 800 AM, 98,5 FM).
