Montreal, July 14, 2009 – Montreal Alouettes’ Vice President and General Manager Jim Popp announced today that Canadian defensive tackle J.P. Bekasiak and import receiver/return specialist Chad Owens have been added to the team’s practice roster.
Bekasiak (6’6’’, 300 lbs) was drafted by the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in the first round, seventh overall, of the 2007 CFL Canadian Draft. He played 19 games with the Tiger-Cats over the last two seasons, serving as a backup on the defensive line in 2007 before being converted to the offensive line in 2008. A product of the University of Toledo, he is 27.
Owens (5’8’’, 180 lbs) was drafted by the Jacksonville Jaguars in the sixth round, 185th overall, of the 2005 NFL Draft. He spent the 2008 season with the AFL Colorado Crush after playing six games with the Jaguars from 2005 through 2007. He also spent time with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He is 27.
