Montreal, July 27, 2009 – Montreal Alouettes quarterback Anthony Calvillo and defensive end Anwar Stewart have been named, respectively, the CFL’s Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week for Week 4.
Anthony Calvillo – Offensive Player of the Week
The 16-year CFL veteran recorded the 334th and 335th touchdown passes of his career in the Alouettes’ 21-8 win over the Tiger-Cats, surpassing Ron Lancaster for second place in CFL history. He also registered a season-best 404 passing yards on 30 completions. He needs just 34 passing yards to reach 60,000 for his career heading into this week’s game.
Anwar Stewart – Defensive Player of the Week
Stewart registered four tackles and two sacks for losses of 12 yards last Thursday and was part of a defence that did not allow a touchdown to the Tiger-Cats. The CFL’s 2004 Most Outstanding Defensive Player has recorded 10 tackles, one special teams tackle, one interception, three sacks, two tackles for a loss, one knockdown and has forced two forced fumbles so far this season.
