Protest denied
The debate is over, the ruling is in.
Rejoice Lions fans, your hard-earned win still counts. As for Als nation – the opportunity for revenge is only a short four days away.
Following their controversial loss at the hands of the BC Lions, Alouettes management filed an official protest to Commissioner Mark Cohon, stating that the grounds upon which Montreal’s final offensive drive concluded were against league regulations.
While the Als did indeed have a very justifiable case, Cohon explained that unless the game officials intentionally made a mistake, then the ruling on the field stands. As inconvenient as the human error may have been, Montreal President and CEO Larry Smith has shifted his focus elsewhere.
“We are disapointed with the major blunder and material error by the on-field and sideline officials — an error recongnized by the CFL — that is costing us at least a tie. We do, however, accept Commissioner Mark Cohon’s decision,” Smith said on MontrealAlouettes.com. “All of our energy is now focused on our next game.”
Logan and Wake stick with NFL clubs
Two members of the pride have gone their separate ways.
One of them – Stephan Logan – takes his speed and quick feet to Steeltown, home of the six-time and defending Super Bowl Champion Pittsburgh Steelers, while the other – Cameron Wake – takes his back-to-back Most Outstanding Defensive player trophies to the sandy beaches of Miami, home of the Dolphins.
Last season, Logan led the Lions and finished fourth in the CFL with 889 rushing yards on 122 attempts, caught 52 passes for 477 yards with three touchdowns and finished sixth in the CFL with 1,366 yards from scrimmage. Wake recorded 65 tackles and league-high 23 sacks while recovering three fumbles in 2008.
Dorsey back in Toronto?
The struggling Toronto Argonauts may get some reinforcements come next week.
Released from the Washington Redskins’ training camp earlier this week, thrilling kick-returner Dominique Dorsey may find himself wearing the double-blue uniform of the Argonauts as early as next week, barring no other NFL team showing interest in him throughout the next 10 days.
2008 saw Dorsey rack up 1,257 yards on 50 returns with a touchdown on kickoff returns and 752 yards and a touchdown on punt returns.
