Montreal, Sept. 12, 2009 – The Montreal Alouettes invite their fans to show up early this Sunday as the team hosts the BC Lions at Percival Molson Stadium at 1 p.m.
Prior to kickoff, the organization will honour the memory of former quarterback and head coach Sam “The Rifle” Etcheverry, who sadly passed away last Aug. 29. The team will wear its retro jerseys – the same uniform worn by Etcheverry as he dominated the CFL at Percival Molson Stadium in the 1950s.
The Alouettes would like to remind people that several roads in and around the city will be closed on Sunday, including the Jacques-Cartier Bridge from 6 to 11 a.m. due to the Marathon de Montréal.
Glen Weir
Another former Alouette will be honoured on Sunday as the Als pay tribute to defensive lineman Glen Weir, who will be inducted into the Canadian Football Hall of Fame later this month in a ceremony in Winnipeg. Weir will be honoured at half-time in the company of several of his former teammates, including Ed George, Dan Yochum, Tony Proudfoot, and Team President and CEO, Larry Smith.
Weir joined the Als in 1972 following a trade with the Tiger-Cats and rarely missed a game from then on. He played 203 games in 13 seasons in Montreal and held the team record for most games played until it was broken just this year by centre Bryan Chiu.

Finally, the Alouettes Alumni Association will use the opportunity of having so many great stars from the past on hand to award the first annual Tony Proudfoot Award to be given to the alumnus who most dedicates himself to the community.
