Als top CFL on TSN Power Rankings for 12th consecutive week
If there’s one thing that’s remained a constant throughout the 2009 CFL season, it’s the Montreal Alouettes sitting on top of virtually every ranking published. Their latest accolade comes in the form of the CFL on TSN’s weekly Power Rankings – one throne the Als have refused to step down from all season long.
Following their 33-14 win over the visiting Winnipeg Blue Bombers the Als find themselves atop the rankings for the 12th straight week. Right behind them are the Calgary Stampeders, who remain in the two spot even after falling to the Hamilton Tiger-Cats 24-17 last week.
The rest of the list sees the Edmonton Eskimos at third, the Tiger-Cats at fourth followed by the Saskatchewan Roughriders at fifth.
The bottom three spots belong to the BC Lions, Toronto Argonauts and the Blue Bombers respectively.
Back for more – Printers returns to BC
Casey Printers is back, but this time the 2004 MOP says he’s going to wait a bit longer before he jets again.
“It is part of the process,” said Printers on TSN.ca. “When you’ve gone through all the things I have gone through, I’ve seen a lot and been through a lot.
“You have to be patient as a quarterback.”
Printers returns to the CFL following a failed attempt at finding a role on the NFL’s Kansas City Chiefs. The once-upon-a-time CFL superstar will re-start his CFL career on the Lions’ practice roster.
In five seasons with both the Lions and Hamilton Tiger-Cats, Printers has accumulated 9,230 passing yards and 51 touchdown passes, while adding 1,334 rushing yards and 18 touchdowns on the ground.
He is 28.
Update on Canadians down south
Week 2 south of the border is in the books. And with that, comes the weekly report on Canadians and former CFLers gracing their presence.
O.J. Atogwe: In a 9-7 loss to the Washington Redskins, the St. Louis Ram tallied eight tackles. The Windsor, ON, native now has 16 tackles on the season, as well as one interception and two knockdowns.
Stefan Logan: The former BC Lion, now Pittsburgh Steeler averaged 23 yards on two kick returns and caused some headaches on a 19-yard punt return in a 17-14 loss to their rival Chicago Bears.
Vaughn Martin: A 2009, fourth round draft pick of the San Diego Chargers, Martin turned some heads when he walked into Chargers training camp during the summer. Last week was a memorable one for the Western, ON graduate as the 320 lbs defensive end recorded his first and second tackles of his career in a 31-26 loss to the Baltimore Ravens.
