AC & AC lead the Als to a decisive 10th win this season

Hamilton, ON – After being kept at bay during a two-week stay at home in Montreal, Alouettes running back Avon Cobourne took his show on the road and landed in Hamilton.
And what a show it was.
With great supporting casts on both sides of the ball, Cobourne turned in one of his best performances of the 2009 season, torching the Tiger-Cat (6-6-0) defence for 193 rushing yards and two touchdowns en-route to a 42-8 Alouette (10-2-0) victory Friday night at Ivor Wynne Stadium.
Cobourne also garnered 46 receiving yards, connecting with quarterback Anthony Calvillo five times throughout the game.
Once again, Calvillo was the glue that kept the Als together on a night when the Tiger-Cats seemed poised for an upset.
AC completed 69 per cent of his passes for 286 yards and two touchdowns in the win, finding seven different receivers in the process.
Not just the AC show
With the game practically out of reach late in the fourth quarter, head coach Marc Trestman opted to take his star quarterback out of the game and inserted second stringer Adrian McPherson.
Aside from the two times that Cobourne found the end zone, the Als managed to add six points on the board on three other occasions.
McPherson and slotback Jamel Richardson each scored in the first quarter while receiver Kerry Watkins continued his strong season with a five-yard touchdown catch in the third.
Watkins’ catch was challenged by the Tiger-Cats, who claimed that Number 81 didn’t have possession before he went out of bounds. The call eventually stood, thanks to a great second effort by the Als’ leading receiver.
On defence, the Als were once again rock solid, forcing four turnovers and sacking quarterbacks Quinton Porter and Kevin Glenn a combined six times.
John Bowman and Keron Williams lead the way for the Als, bringing the Hamilton pivots to the turf two times apiece.
Montreal next visits the Argonauts at Toronto’s Rogers Centre next Saturday, Oct. 3 at 1 p.m. (RDSHD, TSNHD, CKAC SPORTS, CJAD 800 AM, 98,5 FM).

Cahoon registered his 121st-straight game with at least one catch and surpassed Don Narcisse for 4th all-time with his 920th reception… Cobourne’s 193 rushing yards were a career-high… Cobourne’s 41-yard TD run was the second-longest of his career… The Als need two wins or one win and one Hamilton loss to clinch first place in the East Division… The Als will clinch at least second place in the East with one win or one loss each by both Toronto and Winnipeg.
