Montreal, Oct. 6, 2009 – For the first time this season, a member of the Montreal Alouettes has taken top honours for his defensive play as linebacker Chip Cox has been named the CFL’s Defensive Player of the Week for Week 14.

Cox scored his second fumble-return touchdown of the season on a 61-yard return in the fourth quarter of the Alouettes’ 27-8 win over the Argonauts in Toronto last Saturday. He also recorded nine tackles, one sack and forced another fumble in the win, which clinched a playoff spot for Montreal.
He currently leads the CFL with 142 rumble-return yards, is tied for first with four forced fumbles, and fifth with 66 tackles. He has also registered three sacks, five tackles for losses, one interception, one knockdown and six special teams tackles so far this year.
This was Cox’s second such selection, the first coming in Week 1 of the 2006 campaign. He was a unanimous choice.
The Alouettes will next welcome the defending Grey Cup Champion Calgary Stampeders next Monday at 1 p.m. for a Thanksgiving Day matchup at Percival Molson Stadium. (RDS HD, TSN HD, CKAC SPORTS, CJAD 800 AM, 98,5 FM)
