TSN and Sportsnet keep Als on top of Power Rankings
The general consensus around the Canadian football community is that your Montreal Alouettes are the CFL’s top team for a 14th straight week.
Both TSN and Sportsnet believe that Marc Trestman and the Als’ 11-2-0 record and East Division stranglehold are satisfactory enough to keep them where they have sat all season long. Rounding out the top half on both lists are the Calgary Stampeders, Saskatchewan Roughriders and the BC Lions.
The Darian Durant-led Roughriders fell one spot to third in the rankings due to their loss to the Lions in BC who jumped to fourth, while Calgary’s win over the Tiger-Cats boosted them up one spot to second. The bottom half of the rankings has Hamilton at fifth, Edmonton at sixth, while the Bombers and Argonauts occupy the last two spots.
Printers on the sideline
Casey Printers’ time on the BC Lions’ practice roster is done, but that doesn’t mean the former MOP is ready for game action just yet.
Tuesday, the Lions announced that Printers will dress as their third-stringer and will be on the sidelines for the first time this season when the Lions take on the Edmonton Eskimos.
“It’s just another step,” Printers told the TEAM 1040. “I’m excited about it and excited to be a part of the team, and being able to help the team from the sidelines and do my part. It’s about whatever I can do to help the team.”
Printers re-joined the Lions after a stint in the NFL with the Kansas City Chiefs and a couple of seasons with the Ticats. He is 28.
Update on former CFLers and Canadians in NFL
Week 4 south of the border is in the books. And with that, comes the weekly report on Canadians and former CFLers.
Cameron Wake: Arguably the most dominant defensive player in recent CFL memory, Wake finally got a second chance at proving himself in the NFL. Sunday, Wake sacked Bills quarterback Trent Edwards on three occasions, sending Dolphins fans into frenzy in Miami’s 38-10 win.
“I’ve been waiting a long time for this,” Wake told Yahoo! Sports. “It has been a long road to get to the NFL. To go out there and get my first NFL sack and to win the game, you can’t ask for much more than that.”
Israel Idonije: In a 48-24 win over the lowly Detroit Lions, the Brandon, MB native recorded his first sack of the season and forced a fumble. Idonije has four tackles so far this season.
Shaun Swisham: The Redskins had to use place-kicker Suisham as their punter after Hunter Smith injured his groin on the first punt of the game. Suisham also kicked a season-long 42-yard field goal in a 16-13 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
