Als still on top of TSN CFL Power Rankings
Week 17 of the CFL featured plenty of exciting moments and with that, come the TSN CFL Power Rankings.
The top four remained the same, with the Montreal Alouettes remaining on their perch atop the rankings despite suffering their third loss of the season to the Winnipeg Blue Bombers last Sunday at Canad Inns Stadium.
The Saskatchewan Roughriders fall in at second place following their big overtime win over Casey Printers and the BC Lions who sit in fourth place behind the Calgary Stampeders.
The bottom half of the rankings saw some changes, as Winnipeg’s upset over the Als was good enough to boost them up one spot over the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.
The Eskimos and Argonauts round up the rest of the list at seventh and eighth respectively.
Printers impresses in season debut
It wasn’t the outcome he would have liked, but Casey Printers looked right at home in his first CFL game since 2008.
The 2004 Most Outstanding Player completed 19 of 31 passes for 339 yards and two touchdowns before throwing an interception intended for Geroy Simon in overtime to seal BC’s fate against the Roughriders.
“I was just going to give Geroy a shot. I mean, he’s made so many plays for us in the past that I just figured ‘It’s Geroy, I may as well give him a shot,”‘ said Printers, on TSN.ca.
With the loss, the Lions now sit three points behind the Riders and Stampeders in the West Division with 16 points, good enough for the last playoff spot in the West.
Update down south
Week 7 is in the books down south and with that come the weekly updates on Canadians and former CFLers.
Cameron Wake: In his first appearance since recording two-and-a-half sacks and a forced fumble against the Bills earlier this month, Wake recorded two tackles in a 46-34 loss to Drew Brees and the Saints Sunday afternoon in Miami. Wake now has nine tackles on the season.
Stefan Logan: Logan continues to prove that he can be a valuable special teams commodity in the NFL as the kick returner tallied 105 return yards and assisted on two tackles in the Steelers’ 27-17 win over the Vikings.
Israel Idonije: The defensive end out of Brandon, MB, collected four tackles in Chicago’s 45-10 loss to the upstart Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday. Idonije now has eight tackles and one forced fumble so far this season.
