Cahoon, Watkins star in in TSN’s CFL Play of the Year bracket
Two Montreal Alouettes receivers are getting some much-deserved recognition from Canada’s sports leader.
Slotted up against three other East Division opponents, slotback Ben Cahoon and wide receiver Kerry Watkins are vying for your vote to name one of their spectacular catches as the CFL Play of the Year.
Cahoon’s catch, titled “3-2-1, Rolling!” features the 12-year Alouette veteran leaping sideways to grab an Anthony Calvillo offering through three Saskatchewan Roughrider defenders only to wrap his arms around Roughrider defensive back Tad Kornegay’s helmet while holding onto the ball to make the catch.
Watkins’ catch came in the opening drive of the 2009 CFL season. Dubbed “Canada Day Catch”, the Alouettes’ leading receiver needed a lot of speed and just one arm to make his highlight-reel catch that resulted in a Montreal touchdown.

Great day for Larry Tay
Not only did Larry Taylor’s 115-yard missed field goal return for a touchdown give his Alouettes a big enough cushion to solidify a win last week against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, it also resulted in some new hardware for the electric special-teams player.
Tuesday, the CFL announced that Taylor was unanimously selected as the Special Team’s Player of the Week for the third time this season.
Taylor’s award also marks the twelfth time an Alouette has been named a Player of the Weekin 2009.
Update on ex-CFLers and Canadians in the NFL
After an exciting Week 8 in the NFL, here’s a look at how former CFLers and Canadians fared.
Nate Burleson: In Sunday’s 38-17 loss to Tony Romo and the Dallas Cowboys, Burleson had six receptions for 89 yards. The receiver from Calgary, AB now has 487 total receiving yards and three touchdowns so far this season.
OJ Atogwe: Atogwe played a big role in St. Louis’ first win of the 2009 season, a 17-10 decision over the Detroit Lions recording six tackles. The Windsor, ON native now has 53 tackles this season and sits in second on the Rams’ tackles list.
Cameron Wake: The former BC Lion saw minimal action in Miami’s win over the host New York Jets. Wake recorded just one tackle in the win, bringing his totals up to 10 so far this season.
