Montreal, Dec. 21, 2009 – Construction is advancing well as the Montreal Alouettes expand Percival Molson Stadium by 5,000 more seats and 19 more luxury suites for the 2010 season. Work began in the immediate days following the Alouettes’ last home game of 2009 in early November and has been progressing well since.
“The work is going very well and we’ll be ready in time for the 2010 season. We’ll be starting the next decade with great enthusiasm in our new stadium with 5,000 more seats, 19 more luxury suites, an amazing head coach, and a great core of players,” said Alouettes’ President and CEO Larry Smith, who gave a tour of the construction site today. “With these new seats, the Alouettes will be more accessible than ever before and we’ll be able to celebrate our Grey Cup triumph in style.”
Work on most the stadium’s structural columns was started prior to and completed during the 2009 season. Erection of the steel structure that will support the north suites has been underway since the completion of the season, and excavation in the north-east sector, as well as the construction of pillars to support the new north-east grandstands has begun.
The stadium’s video screen has been moved to its permanent location behind the east end zone, while on the south side, several concrete sections have been removed in order to allow for the installation of the structure that will support the new upper deck stands and concourse – which will have its own concession stands and washrooms.
Builders’ Club
Fans will be able to play an important role in this project as well as become part of the history of Percival Molson Stadium by purchasing a brick with a personalized engraving and joining the Alouettes’ Builders’ Club. The bricks will be installed in a wall on the Builders’ Promenade located near the new main entrance to the stadium on avenue du Parc, and will entitle the purchaser to a tax receipt.
