Deslauriers and Robertshaw re-sign with Als
Montreal Alouettes’ Vice President and General Manager Jim Popp announced Thursday that Canadians Éric Deslauriers and Jeff Robertshaw have both signed one-year contracts with an option year.
Heading into his fourth season with the Alouettes, Deslauriers is looking to bounce back from an injury-plagued 2009 season and become another one of quarterback Anthony Calvillo’s many on-field targets.
“I’m proud to be back with the Grey Cup Champions! I have a lot to prove in 2010, both to myself and to my teammates,” Deslauriers said. “I’ve already started training and getting back into the swing of our community programs like CN Adopt an Alouette, so I’m really pumped and ready to go.”
As for Robertshaw, he too will look to overcome an injury-filled 2009 campaign that saw him miss nine games with a shoulder injury and the East Division Final with hamstring problems.
“I’m excited and glad to be back with this great organization. The team has been good to me and I’m now 100 per cent physically and ready to go, and I’m looking forward to playing a bigger role with the team this season,” Robertshaw said.
“We’re happy Éric and Jeff have decided to stay with us. We’re looking forward to Éric getting back on track after a season plagued with injuries. We know that his best years are yet to come,” Popp said. “And it’s very important to have guys like Jeff back. He played a big role for us in 2009 on special teams. Unfortunately, his time on the field was limited due to injury, but we’re looking forward to him being at his best this coming season.”
Commissioner Cohon wants your help!
While it’s the players on the field that make the CFL overtime system so exciting, CFL Commissioner Mark Cohon is looking off the field towards the fans to make it even better.
Thursday, the commissioner released a statement country-wide for the second year in a row asking Canadians for their input on how to improve the league’s overtime format.
“Some of our most exciting games last season, including one of our playoff games, were decided in overtime, and that prompted some discussion among fans about our format,” Cohon said. “We have tremendous respect for the knowledge of our fans, and their dedication to the tradition and future of our league, so we’d like to turn that informal overtime discussion into specific ideas that our league can consider as it looks towards the 2010 season.”

Bombers narrow it down to three
Just over a month after relieving former head coach Mike Kelly of his duties on Dec. 17, it appears as though the search for Winnipeg’s new coach has been narrowed down to three candidates.
“I’m still verifying some references and some associates,” Bombers’ Vice President and General Manager of Football Operations Joe Mack said in an interview Wednesday with the Canadian Press.
Sources have indicated to the Canadian Press that Mack has interviewed Saskatchewan Roughriders offensive coordinator Paul LaPolice on Monday, as well as Calgary offensive coordinator George Cortez, and added that Mack intends to interview Hamilton defensive coordinator Greg Marshall this weekend.
