Riders brass thinking new stadium
With several teams around the CFL making changes to their home fields in time for the 2010 season, the Saskatchewan Roughriders have opted to investigate the option of potentially leaving Mosaic Stadium.
According to a feasibility study it would about $386 million to build a multi-purpose entertainment facility in downtown Regina.
“Looking around the Canadian Football League, we really need something like this. All around us, the other teams in the league are moving forward with their stadiums and their facilities, literally everywhere,” said Roughriders chairman Rob Pletch on TSN.ca.
While the Riders’ current home at Mosaic Stadium is still in good shape structurally, it is however, one of the oldest stadiums in the league, having been first constructed as a rugby field in 1910.
“I think you can play at Mosaic for another five years with some fixups along the way, but there are just so many features of that place that are (aging). We’re just straining the limits.
“It’s historic, it’s got atmosphere, but it’s pretty old and tired” said Pletch.
Younger re-signs with Toronto
The rebuilding Toronto Argonauts have re-signed cornerback Jordan Younger to a deal.
Financial terms of the contract were not disclosed.
Younger, a two-time CFL All-Star started in 13 games for the Argonauts last season, recording 34 tackles and one fumble recovery.
“I just want to thank the diehard Argos fans for sticking with us over the last two seasons,” Younger said in a statement. “We are all working hard to give you something to cheer for in 2010. Most of what I’ve learned playing in this league has come from guys like Mike O’Shea and Orlondo Steinauer. Their character and work ethic makes coming back to Toronto exciting and my outlook for this season is extremely optimistic.”
