Als announce 2010 coaching staff
Montreal Alouettes’ Vice President and General Manager Jim Popp and Head Coach Marc Trestman announced today the Alouettes’ 2010 coaching staff:
Returning from the 2009 Grey Cup Champion staff are Defensive Coordinator & Defensive Backs Coach Tim Burke; Offensive Coordinator, Quarterbacks Coach & Assistant Head Coach Scott Milanovich ; Running Backs & Assistant Offensive Line Coach Andy Bischoff; Receivers Coach Marcus Brady; Defensive Assistant & Football Operations Assistant Jean-Marc Edme; Offensive Line Coach Jonathan Himebauch; Defensive Line Coach Mike Sinclair; and Linebackers Coach Tim Tibesar.
New Special Teams Coordinator Richard Kent will replace the departing Scott Squires.
The Argonauts’ secondary coach in 2009, Kent worked his way through NFLE prior to joining Toronto, primarily coaching the secondary and special teams and developing game strategy. His versatility paid off as he reached the World Bowl four times, winning two championships (’02, ’05).
Lions extend Buono
With CFL training camps set to open in just over two months, the BC Lions announced the contract extension of possibly their most valuable asset. Thursday, the Lions announced that general manager and head coach Wally Buono will remain with the club through the 2013 season.
”Wally’s accomplishments over more than three decades as a player, coach and GM are unparalleled,” Lions owner, president and CEO David Braley said in a statement. ”His commitment to excellence and his ability to get the very best from everyone in the organization make him highly respected across our league and I am excited about what the future holds for our club with Wally leading the way.”
Under Buono’s eight years of guidance, the Lions have appeared in five consecutive West Division Finals, a crossover berth to the East Division Final and have a 2006 Grey Cup banner hanging in the rafters of BC Place.
”My time in BC has been tremendously rewarding and my passion for coaching is stronger than ever as I look forward to earning another championship for Lions fans,” said Buono on TSN.ca. ”David Braley has laid a solid foundation for the success of the Lions organization and I truly appreciate the confidence he has placed in me over the past seven seasons.”
Roughriders add depth
Thursday, the Saskatchewan Roughriders added some depth to the running back position by announcing the signings of Lavarus Giles and Marcus Thigpen.
Giles, spent some time with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers last season, recording 54 yards and two touchdowns on 14 carries in just four games played, while Thigpen spent last season in the NFL, suiting up with the Philadelphia Eagles and the Denver Broncos.
