As the opening month of the 2009 season came to a close so did the Alouettes’ four- game winning streak.
Heading into Edmonton to play against their fourth Western opponent in five weeks, the Als found themselves as the talk of the league and the media surrounding it. With convincing wins in their first four weeks, the Als flew into Commonwealth Stadium to face off against Ricky Ray and the Eskimos for their second matchup of the season.
The first time the two teams met, the Als stymied their West Division rivals, beating them 50-16 in their home opener. However, the Als found themselves in front of a very different Eskimos team.
While the Als made every effort possible to make it interesting, Ray – who had his best outing of the season by far – led his Eskimos to their second-straight win, beating the Als 33-19.
Just a week after Montreal prevented the Hamilton Tiger-Cats from scoring a touchdown in a 21-8 win, the Als failed to muster up any kind of offensive threat of their own, with their lone major coming on a one-yard Avon Cobourne run in the fourth quarter.
With the bad, however, also came the good. Following their defeat in Edmonton, the Als then rallied for three-straight wins against Toronto, Winnipeg and Saskatchewan, improving their record to 7-1-0.
