Alouettes to pick seventh
Montréal, Apr. 29, 2010 – The Montreal Alouettes will draft seventh in the first round of the CFL Canadian Draft for a third year in a row this Sunday, May. 2.
“The CFL Draft is the foundation and the lifeline of the CFL. This is where it starts. This is the future of our team and a huge advantage when understanding the non-import value when selecting your roster,” said Montreal Alouettes’ Vice President and General Manager Jim Popp, whose last two first-round picks were Shea Emry in 2008 and Dylan Steenbergen in 2009.
The following is a look at the Alouettes’ 2010 draft:
Round 1: 1 pick, 7th (a) of the round, 7th overall
Round 2: 2 picks, 7th (b) and 8th of the round, 14th and 15th overall
Round 3: 1 pick, 8th of the round, 23rd overall
Round 4: 1 pick, 8th of the round, 31st overall
Round 5: 1 pick, 8th of the round, 39th overall
Round 6: 1 pick, 8th of the round, 47th overall
(a) Montreal will draft seventh as the Tiger-Cats forfeited their first round pick, fifth overall, by selecting Zac Carlson in the 2009 supplemental draft.
(b) Montreal acquired a pair of second-round draft picks from Saskatchewan – 2009 (Martin Bédard) and 2010 – in exchange for Donovan Alexander.
Of note
– The Alouettes have drafted seven Quebec-born players in the first round since 1996, and two in the last five years (Matthieu Proulx – 2005 and Éric Deslauriers – 2006);
– The Alouettes have drafted 23 Quebec-born players since 1996, including three last year;
– The Alouettes have 18 veterans drafted by the team since 1996 on their current roster.
