Montréal, May 2, 2010 – The Montreal Alouettes selected Quebec-born offensive lineman Kristian Matte from the Concordia University Stingers with their first pick in the first round, seventh overall, of the 2010 CFL Canadian Draft. He became the second-consecutive offensive lineman to be selected in the first round by the Alouettes after Dylan Steenebergen was chosen in 2009.
The Alouettes followed up their opening pick with the last two selections of the second round, drafting defensive lineman Chima Ihekwoaba of the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks and linebacker Curtis Dublanko from the NCAA North Dakota Fighting Sioux.
Popp also drafted another pair of players from the Quebec Conference during the draft, including quarterback Marc-Olivier Brouillette from the Carabins de l’Université de Montréal and linebacker Justin Conn from the Bishop’s Gaiters.
“As a scouting staff, we feel great about our choices today,” said Vice President and GM Jim Popp following the draft. “Our goal is to select a group of young men that can develop into the foundation of our organization for the future. We feel we have a chance with these men.”
