Sherbrooke, June 9, 2010 – The defence has been fired up from the beginning of camp and it really showed on this fourth day of camp as the team’s defensive players stepped it up. The “D” won several battles, especially in the trenches, and the guys were on top of the ball all day.
“In this league, turnovers will make you win games, so at the beginning of camp our coaches on defence insist that we’re hungry for the ball,” explained safety Matthieu Proulx. “Our mentality on defence is that the ball belongs to us just as much to us as it does to the offence. It’s also a way for us always know where the ball is.”
Anwar Stewart loses his equipment
The offence found an original way to get back at their counterparts on defence during the break between this morning’s practices. Defensive end Anwar Stewart pulled his equipment off before going for a sip of water, but it wasn’t there when he got back… Stewart put on his best smile when he realized that someone had hidden his stuff in an equipment bag. It just goes to show you how high the team spirit is.
Departures
The Alouettes have released import linebacker Sam Pope (Hampton) and import guard Joseph Lara (Florida International).
Arrivals
The team added import linebacker Travis Key (Michigan State), import defensive tackle Justin Lawrence (Morgan State) and import centre Daverin Geralds (Mississippi) to the roster.

“I feel a little bit more relaxed this year because I know the system. Obviously, you still need to study a lot at night, but as a second-year player, you feel more confident knowing the offensive system and having the experience from last season.”

Former Alouettes’ All-Star defensive back Tony Proudfoot was at Coulter Field this morning to encourage this year’s rookies and veterans. Tomorrow
The Alouettes will hold two morning practices on Thursday from 7:50 a.m. to 12:35 p.m. with media availability to follow on field after the second practice.
