Sherbrooke, June 8, 2010 – It’s said there’s nothing more important in Canadian football than strong special teams, so that aspect of the game was the main focus of practice today outdoors at Bishop’s University’s Coulter Field.
The first practice was reserved exclusively for “teams” work, with new Special Teams Coordinator Richard Kent running the drills. Following that part of practice, the players suited up and had a vigorous workout under a hot sun.
Departures
The Alouettes have released linebackers John Mohring (Georgia Southern) and Tyrell Sales (Penn State). Mohring attended training camp and played a game in 2009 before missing the remainder of the season with an injury.
Arrivals
The team added import running back Tracy Ford (Portland State) and import linebacker Jon Banks (Iowa State), with both taking part in their first practice this morning. Banks had previously joined the Alouettes at mid-season last year and played two games, recording five defensive tackles, three special teams tackles and one interception.
New numbers
Banks was wearing #1 after using #10 last year while slotback Ike Whitaker, who had been in #00 switched up for #3.

RDS, TSN and team photographer Benoit Pelosse were at Bishop’s John H. Price Sports & Recreation Centre for the team’s annual headshots session. During lunch, players, coaches and staff members donned jerseys, shirts and ties and gave their best smile to the camera.
Tomorrow
The Alouettes will hold two morning practices on Wednesday from 7:50 a.m. to 12:35 p.m. with media availability to follow on field after the second practice.
