Sherbrooke, June 15, 2010 – Training camp has resumed for the Alouettes who were back on Coulter Field at Bishop’s University this morning after coming back from Winnipeg where they played their first preseason game on Sunday.
The sun was shining down on the players who practiced twice in the morning. Players have began the last stretch of training camp which will end with Saturday’s first game in the new McGill Stadium, when the Argonauts will take on the Als at 1 p.m.
For many veterans, this game will help them get their timing back before the season starts and for younger players, this will be their last chance to impress the team if they intend on sticking around.
Wide receiver C.J. Hawthorne took part in his first CFL game on Sunday. He finished the game with 15 yards on three catches. “I think I played a good game. It was great to be back out there and play some football but there’s a lot to be done to be better mentally and physically on and off the field.”
New to the club
Import cornerback Sir Snowden (Southern Connecticut State), import defensive end Greg Middleton (Indiana) and non-import slotback Taylor Krislock (Saskatchewan) joined the Alouettes today.
No longer with the team
Import running back Corey Council, import cornerback Joshua Harris, import slotback Ike Whitaker, import defensive end Tyson Smith, non-import defensive end Chris Parris, import kicker Colt David and non-import defensive back Razzie Smith have been released by the Alouettes.
Morin-Soucy returns
Non-import defensive end Nickolas Morin-Soucy (Montréal) was also back on the field after missing the entire season last season due to an injury suffered during the second pre-season game. Drafted in the third round in 2009, he had attended training camp and recorded two tackles and one sack in two pre-season games.
New numbers
Receiver Tim Maypray was wearing #3 after using #23 on Sunday while defensive tackle Taylor Scott, who had been in #70 switched up for #50.
Injuries
Defensive ends Gavin Walls and Shawn Mayne were added to the injury list.
Tomorrow
The Alouettes will hold two morning practices on Wednesday from 7:50 a.m. to 12:35 p.m. with media availability to follow on field after the second practice.
