Terry Baker kicked for the Alouettes from their re-birth in the CFL right through to the team’s Grey Cup win in 2002. In fact, that win was the last game of a great career in which Baker set virtually every team kicking record imaginable. MontrealAlouettes.com caught up with the now-retired kicker.

What was it like playing for the Alouettes in the late-90s when the team was just re-establishing itself in Montreal?
It was great playing with the Alouettes at that time. We always had great teams and great crowds, and we won a lot of games. It’s always more fun when you win.
You were there for the tough times at the Big O and the great ones at McGill – what was that move like?
I remember playing the playoff game against BC in 1997 at McGill Stadium due to a U2 concert at the Big O. There were trees growing through the stands and the stadium looked like it had seen better days, but the atmosphere was fantastic and the fans loved it.
What do you think of all the work done at McGill in the last few years?
I know the stadium went through some dressing room renovations after I retired and they were nice and I have seen the pictures on the Alouettes website – it looks really good and I’m happy they added all those seats.
What was the highlight of your career in Montreal?
Winning the Grey Cup in 2002 was the highlight of my career in Montreal. Winning that championship in Edmonton against the Eskimos was special. The fact that it was my last game of my career made it even more memorable.
What are you up to now?
My wife Krista and I own and operate a gift shop – Admiral Benbow Trading Company – in beautiful Lunenburg, NS. We often visit with Alouette fans that make it to Lunenburg.
