Montreal, Aug. 4, 2010 – Montreal Alouettes quarterback Anthony Calvillo and defensive end John Bowman have been named, respectively, the CFL’s Offensive and Defensive Players of the Month for July.
Calvillo – Offensive Player of the Month
Calvillo led the Alouettes to four wins in five games in July and leads the CFL with 135 completions, 1,606 passing yards and a 69.9 completion percentage. He is tied for first with just two interceptions and is second with 10 passing touchdowns and a quarterback rating of 100.8. He also totalled 63 yards on seven carries.
The 17-year CFL veteran has won the July honours for the second year in a row, after starting off the 2009 season on a high note as well.
He was named the CFL’s Most Outstanding Player in 2003, 2008 and 2009 and the East Division’s Most Outstanding Player in 2002, 2003, 2004, 2008 and 2009.
Bowman – Defensive Player of the Month
Bowman leads the CFL with four forced fumbles and is tied for first with six sacks. He has also recorded six tackles and two knockdowns this season.
He was named Defensive Player of the Week on Week 4 after recording a career-best four sacks in the Alouettes’ 37-14 win over the Tiger-Cats. He also forced two fumbles in the game, helping the Alouettes’ defensive unit create key turnovers against quarterback Kevin Glenn and his offence.
Bowman was an East Division All-Star in 2009 after leading the CFL for most sacks and most forced fumbles.
The Alouettes host the Saskatchewan Roughriders this Friday at 7 p.m. at McGill (RDSHD, TSNHD, NRJ, CJAD).
