Montreal, Aug. 24, 2010 – Running back Brandon Whitaker and linebacker Chip Cox were named, respectively, the CFL’s Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week for Week 8.
Chip Cox – Defensive Player of the Week
Cox scored his first touchdown of the season after recovering a fumble and recorded one sack to go along with his team-high nine tackles for the Alouettes. His touchdown came after recovering a fumble and taking it 14 yards to the end zone to open the scoring against the Blue Bombers. He currently leads the team in defensive tackles (39) and is third in sacks (2). This marks Cox’s second Defensive Player of the Week honour this season (Week 6).
Brandon Whitaker – Offensive Player of the Week
In his first start of the season, Whitaker recorded 74 yards on 11 carries and scored his first two career rushing touchdowns in the Alouettes’ 39-17 home win over the Blue Bombers. He also registered 44 receiving yards on five receptions.
The Alouettes will next host the BC Lions at McGill on Friday, Sept. 3 at 7:30 p.m. (RDSHD, TSNHD, NRJ, CJAD).
