Montreal – The Canadian Football League announced today that Montreal Alouettes quarterback and two-time defending CFL Most Outstanding Player Anthony Calvillo has been named the East Division’s nominee for the award for a third-straight season.
This marks the sixth time Calvillo has been named the East Division’s best player, despite playing in just 15 games this season – he was sidelined for two games due to a sternum injury midway through the season, and ceded his starting spot to Adrian McPherson in the team’s season finale last week. Despite missing those three games, Calvillo was still atop or close to the top of several league passing categories: He completed 380 of 562 passes (67.6 per cent) for 4,839 yards and 32 touchdowns against just seven interceptions.His QB rating of 108.1 was tops in the league.
The finalists were chosen by 69 voters, including the members of the Football Reporters of Canada and CFL head coaches. Calvillo will be up against Calgary Stampeders quarterback Henry Burris for the award, which will be presented at the annual CFL awards show during Grey Cup week.
