Montreal, Jan. 22, 2011 – Montreal Alouettes’ Vice President and General Manager Jim Popp as well as head coach Marc Trestman announced today that Tim Tibesar was appointed the team’s defensive coordinator.
Tibesar was the team’s linebacker coach for the past two seasons. Under his guidance, Alouettes’ linebacker Chip Cox has thrived, being named to the CFL All-Star team in 2009 and 2010 as well as the CFLPA All-Star team in 2010. Shea Emry and Ramon Guzman earned starting roles and brought their play to a higher level under Tibesar as well. In his two seasons before coming to Montreal, Tibesar was the defensive coordinator for the Kansas State Wildcats in the NCAA.
“I’m honoured and excited about the opportunity. I look forward to continuing the success we have had in Montreal. It’s a privilege for me to work with such a great organization, coaching staff and players”, said Tibesar.
“Congratulations to Coach Tibesar! This is an exciting opportunity that I’m sure he relishes. Coach Tibesar’s teaching has been a positive impact to the young LB corp since his arrival to the Alouettes two seasons ago”, added Jim Popp.
Tibesar will continue to be the Als’ linebacker coach. The team will interview candidates for the defensive backs’ coaching job over the next couple of weeks. Interviews will begin this week at the Senior Bowl in Mobile, Alabama.
