Montreal, Feb. 25, 2011 – The Montreal Alouettes would like to offer their sincere condolences and support to the family and friends of former defensive back Ricky Bell, who passed away last Feb. 17 at the age of 36.
“The Alouettes family is saddened to hear the news of the passing of Ricky Bell. We send our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and teammates,” said General Manager Jim Popp. “Ricky was a fierce competitor and was always up for a challenge. His two seasons with the Alouettes resulted in two Divisional Championship games and a Grey Cup Appearance.”
Bell joined the Alouettes during the middle of the 2005 season after five years in the CFL with the Calgary Stampeders, Ottawa Renegades and Winnipeg Blue Bombers, winning the Grey Cup with Calgary in 2001 at Olympic Stadium. He started 21 games with the Alouettes over two seasons, recording 64 defensive tackles, four special teams tackles, four tackles for a loss, two sacks and six knockdowns. He helped the Alouettes reach the Grey Cup in 2006.
He also played three seasons in the NFL, one season in NFL Europe and one season in the XFL. He ended his career with the AFL’s Georgia Force in 2008.
